Equestrian - SMU just misses Top 10 in first poll

SMU's great start to the equestrian season almost landed the Mustangs in the first Varsity Equestrian poll of the year...

1. Auburn (58)
2. Texas A&M (52)
3. South Carolina (45)
4. Georgia (42)
5. Oklahoma State (39)
6. Baylor (30)
7. Kansas State (23)
8. Fresno State (10)
9. TCU (9)
10. New Mexico State (6)
Also receiving votes – SMU (5), Tennessee-Martin (4), Delaware State (3), South Dakota State (3)

18 Division I, 23 total.

You also have to consider SMU only participates in Hunter Seat competitions while most other schools compete in both Hunter Seat and Western competitions - so it is hard for SMU to really make that much of an impact in the poll - which is why Baylor and Fresno State are that far ahead of us even though we beat them head-to-head in Hunter Seat.

how many colleges have equestrain as a sport?
I tried to answer my own question and found this site

Is there a schedule somewhere. My 3 year old would love to see equestrian.

There is also usually detailed information with times, etc. at the BuckBranch Farm website, but it appears to be down right now.

It seems like most of the meets start around 9 or 10 in the morning. BuckBranch is only about 15-20 minutes south of downtown and it's just off 45.
