Carstens Selected To National Team Identification Camp

Nov. 29, 2011

DALLAS (SMU) - Emily Carstens, a junior on the SMU rowing team, was selected to participate in the U.S. Rowing National Team Identification Camp on December 3 at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

The Notre Dame camp is one of four identification camps held across the country over the winter. In order to be selected for participation, rowers must be able to complete a 2k on the erg in under 7:15 or a 6k in under 23:00.

Carstens, a native of Tulsa, Okla., has spent time on both sides of the boat during her three seasons at SMU. She is the second athlete from SMU to participate in the identification camps in as many years. Sophomore Courtaney Miller was selected to attend a camp in Oklahoma City last January.

Carstens and the SMU rowing team completed the fall season at the Head of the Colorado on Oct. 29, and will begin the championship season in February.
