Two Mustangs Named To NSCAA All-Central Team

Dec. 8, 2011

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU women's soccer players Mallory Baum and Courtney Smith have been named to the 2011 NSCAA All-Central second team.

Baum, a 2011 First Team All-Conference selection, was a constant in the Mustang midfield this season, starting every game and logging more than 1,700 minutes of action. The junior was one of the Ponies' biggest offensive threats, ripping shots from long range and curling corners into the box. The midfielder had three goals on the season to go along with a pair of assists.

In only her second year on the Hilltop, Smith has proved to be one of the Mustangs most versatile and dangerous players on the team. The 2011 Third Team All-Conference selection has an array offensive skills that caused headaches for defensives throughout the season. Her two goals on the year have both been game-winners, the first being a on a rocket shot at Oklahoma in a 1-0 contest, while the other came in the 81st minute in a 2-1 win over Marshall as she curled a corner kick into the back of the net. Two of her four assists have also led to game-winning goals, one against UCF and the other in a two-assist performance in a 2-1 victory at UAB. The left back earned all eight of her points this season on set pieces.

Congratulations to Mallory and Courtney - two fantastic players!

It's nice to get some recognition beyond the conference.

These teams are loaded with players from the Big 12, Memphis, and UCF - it's pretty huge to have two players on the second team:

Based on the players named, they have Smith in the top 6 defenders in the region and Baum in the top 7 midfielders. Nice.

It won't really be that big of a surprise to see Mallory Baum show up on the Hermann watch list for next season.
