Re: SMU National Championships
What is the breakdown? 1 - Football (1935) 3 - Men's Track And Field (Outdoor 1983, 1986; Indoor 1983) 1 - Men's Golf (1954) Does the additional championship come from football or women's golf?
Re: SMU National ChampionshipsWomen's golf in 1979.
Re: SMU National Championships
Good. I believe UCLA counts their pre-NCAA women's volleyball (and probably some other women's sports) in their 108. We should definitely count our women's golf championship. Shake It Off Moody

Yeah, her brother's name is Sue...
Re: SMU National ChampionshipsDidn't we get voted National champion in some obscure poll in football in 1981/1982?
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: SMU National Championships
Yes - actually SMU was named the national champion in 1981 by the "National Championship Foundation" - whatever that is. Also, in 1982, SMU was named the national champion by the Helms Athletic Foundation. But, obviously, the only "real" football national championship is the one in 1935. Shake It Off Moody
Re: SMU National ChampionshipsEven 1935 is not unanimous, so I tend to view 1981, 1982 as National Championships as well even if voted by three blind mice. And remember the AP/UPI voted it to Penn State in part as a lifetime achievement award to Jo Pa (may he rest in peace). He won another NC later, so that one shouldn't have counted.

SMU National ChampionshipsI believe USC counts every nat'l championship in football regardless of who awarded it. Don't remember why I looked at that. I can't recall other schools.
