Shocking updates to the men's roster. Robbie Derschang and Zach Barnes gone. Seriously?

Emmet Kumeh too.

I do not know but I bet Ponypride does. I would guess either academics, transfer or decision to go pro. Looked at Robbie D's facebook and he was in Akron yesterday. I wonder

Probably a bit of everything. There is also always the money issue at SMU since very few are probably on fulls.

The funny thing is when Derschang came in as a freshman he was so impressive early I actually did wonder if he would be here for the full four years - thought he would end up in MLS before that! :D

Derschang never really got back into the flow after his injury last year - maybe he didn't think they gave him as many minutes as he deserved when he came back. He never really got back to being that full-time player.

No idea on Barnes. He has always been an integral part of things since he got here.

Kumeh really hurts as far as the roster shape goes. I thought our back four would have Simmons, King, and Kumeh as sure starters. Now we might have to do something like move Nelson back there.

Some of the freshmen will definitely see a lot of minutes though. I hope they are ready!

In general I prefer to not talk about players who are not either on the team or players who have officially signed their NLI (or at least committed), but Derschang is kind of a big one.

He is confirmed to be going to Akron:

I assume his issue here was playing time - so it will be really interesting to see how this one works out...

Of course, Caleb Porter has time for his day job now.

Oh man, I hate to see Derschang go. He was good but injured last year; as a freshman, he looked like he was on the cusp of stardom.
