Re: Women's Swimming - NCAA ChampionshipsThe day three prelims are complete.
Therese Svendsen qualified for the B final in the 200 backstroke and SMU is qualified for the B final in the 400 freestyle relay. Hopefully we will have another good night tonight! Go Ponies! Shake It Off Moody
Re: Women's Swimming - NCAA ChampionshipsHere are the top 25 standings going into the last night of action. Missouri has one swimmer in a A final and a relay in a B final so we can't catch them. Virginia has two individuals in A finals, one individual in a B final, and a relay in a B final so they have a good shot at catching us for 16th. None of the other schools close behind SMU have enough finalists tonight to catch us - so it looks like we are fighting for 16th place with Virginia.

Re: Women's Swimming - NCAA ChampionshipsSvendsen finished 3rd in the B final in the 200 backstroke so 11th overall (and 6 big points).

Re: Women's Swimming - NCAA ChampionshipsVirginia picked up 24 points with their two swimmers in the 200 backstroke A final - so we both have 55 points now.
They still have one more individual B final (200 fly), and then we are both in the B final of the 400 free relay in the last event of the meet - which should be exciting! Shake It Off Moody
Re: Women's Swimming - NCAA ChampionshipsThe Virginia swimmer finished 16th in the 200 butterfly which only gives them one point - so SMU just has to finish ahead of Virginia in the 400 free relays to stay ahead of them in the overall standings.
Cal just clinched the overall title with two events to go. Impressive. Shake It Off Moody
Re: Women's Swimming - NCAA ChampionshipsDanFFH - thanks so much for all of your updates!!!!! It's great to be able to follow the team. My daughter was varsity captain of her high school swim team, so I always have a soft spot for swimming. Hope they can hold on to 16 th place!
Re: Women's Swimming - NCAA ChampionshipsNina Rangelova (obviously inspired by being photo of the day on ponyfans) had a HUGE anchor leg and SMU finished 3rd in the B final of the 400 free relay (11th overall).
SMU was in 6th place in the heat going into Rangelova's leg! Virginia finished seventh (15th overall) so we should definitely finish ahead of them in the final team standings. It looks like SMU should have 16th overall wrapped up but we will see when the official standings come out later tonight. Great job to all of the SMU swimmers this week! Shake It Off Moody
Re: Women's Swimming - NCAA ChampionshipsThanks to SMU for the great coverage throughout the championships.
SMU officially finished 16th and ended up with a total of 19 All-America honors! I'm sure this will get its own thread but here is the SMU press release: http://www.smumustangs.com/sports/w-swim/recaps/031712aaa.html Shake It Off Moody
Re: Women's Swimming - NCAA ChampionshipsDelighted that our Women's team had a great NCAAs. Congratulations to Coach Collins and the entire team. Imagine the success, if we had a proper training and competitve aquatic center? (Plug, plug)

Re: Women's Swimming - NCAA ChampionshipsCongratulation to the women's team. They performed very well. If only we had depth and a facility that would allow us to attract top performers.
Re: Women's Swimming - NCAA ChampionshipsGreat job ladies. 16th place is a good finish. Hopefully we can build on this and finish in the top 10 next year. Or to quote major league, win the whole ... thing.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
