IRVING, Texas - SMU swimmer Therese Svendsen has been named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Year for the third consecutive season. The senior is the first three-time Swimmer of the Year in C-USA history and is a four-time specialty award winner, having been named the conference's Freshman Swimmer of the Year in 2009.

The Malmo, Sweden native helped the Mustangs to a 16th-place finish at the NCAA Championship meet, earning All-America honors in four events; the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes, and the 200- and 400-yard medley relays.

Svendsen turned in a dominating performance at the C-USA Championship meet where she was named Swimmer of the Meet for a third straight season after she set or was a part of six championship meet records. Svendsen established individual standards in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.08), 100- (52.31) and 200-yard backstroke (1:53.51) and three relays: 200- (1:36.84) and 400-yard medley (3:32.77) and the 400-yard freestyle (3:16.19).

Newcomer Rachel Nicol was named the C-USA Freshman of the Year. She is the fourth SMU rookie to earn C-USA's top freshman honor and third in the past four seasons. She earned All-America honors at the NCAA Championship meet as a member of the Mustangs' 200-yard medley relay team.

The Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada native set new C-USA Championship records in the 100- (1:01.05) and 200-yard breaststrokes (2:09.13), meeting the NCAA "A" qualifying standard in the 200.
