Former SMU great and alum Carley Phillips won the Texas 5A State Championship today in her first season as head coach of the varsity at Plano West.

Congratulations, Carley!

She is off to a nice start to her coaching career, having coached the Plano West junior varsity to an undefeated regular season in her first season last year.

On a related SMU note, the Plano West varsity features two juniors (Taylor Jackson and Taylor Barg), who have committed to SMU for 2013. Both Jackson and Barg are also on the Dallas Texans U17 team (surprise! :) )

Hopefully, Jackson and Barg will live up to the high standard of play at SMU set by Plano West players like Carley Phillips and Courtney Smith.

Yes, congrats to her. I watched the game online and was hoping 7 Lakes would win....only b/c they have a soph player whose mom & dad are both Mustangs and family friends. The fact that the Plano coach is a Mustang made it all o.k.
