Collins Named To Bulgarian Olympic Coaching Staff
Collins is coaching SMU junior Nina Rangelova

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU women's swim coach Steve Collins has been named a member of the Bulgarian swim coaching staff for the 2012 Olympics. Collins is coaching SMU standout and Bulgarian national team member Nina Rangelova.

Rangelova, who is heading into her junior year on the Hilltop, is making her second Olympic appearance for Bulgaria. The freestyle-specialist is competing in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter events. She placed 11th in the 100-meter (55.92), 11th in the 400-meter (4:14.75) and 13th in the 200-meter (2:00.47) freestyles at the European Championships in May.

Other Mustangs joining Collins and Rangelova at the Olympics include men's assistant coach Andy Kershaw (U.S. swimming manager), Laura Reback Bennett (U.S., triathlon), Anja Carman (Slovenia, swimming), Lars Froelander (Sweden, swimming), Mindaugas Sadauskas (Lithuania, swimming), Denisa Smolenova (Slovakia, swimming) and Therese Svendsen (Sweden, swimming).

The 2012 Olympic Games will be held in London July 27-Aug. 12.

Congratulations to Steve. Having an SMU coach with his athlete at the Olympics is very good for her, Steve and SMU.
