KAITLYN EIDSON: How Swede it is

Postby PonyPride » Mon Jul 23, 2012 2:58 am

Many college athletes strive to keep playing after their time in school is over, but the harsh reality is that most don't get that opportunity. One who is getting the chance to keep playing — and to see another part of the world in the process — is former SMU defender Kaitlyn Eidson, who has signed to play professional soccer in Sweden. Eidson visited with PonyFans.com to discuss how her contract came about, and her expectations for the next chapter in her soccer-playing life.

Enjoy!

Poked around online reading about Östersund out of curiosity. It sounds like the local delicacies are reindeer and char.

In my travels, the only thing I have ever refused to at least try is horse. Reindeer would probably be borderline, but when in Rome...

On the bright side, they do have a restaurant called Volos that categorizes itself as "Tex-Mex", so Kaitlyn should feel right at home! :)

Ha. Char - the cold-water fish (Arctic Char). I guess up there they don't need to specify the Arctic part. :D

Reindeer is the same as venison. I had it in Helsinki and it was fantastic.

I can only assume one of the full game films they sent them was the UCF game this season when Kaitlyn was absolutely dominant. What a great night that was!

If she plays anywhere close to that that over there she will be just fine.

Today is a good day for a Kaitlyn Eidson update considering she scored her first professional goal today!

Kaitlyn has been eligible for three games with Östersunds DFF and in all three games she has started at center back and played the full 90 minutes. They are 3-0-0 in those games and have outscored their opposition 10-0.

Her first game was a home game against the (then) second place team and Östersunds DFF won 1-0.

The second game was a road game against the last place team (it looked like a 4.5 hour bus ride) and Östersunds DFF won 4-0.

Today was the big test with a home game against the current second place team, and Kaitlyn scored what turned out to be the game winner in the second minute on (what else) a header from a corner. Östersunds DFF rode that momentum and went on to win 5-0!

Östersunds DFF is now 11-0-3 and leading their league by seven points (it could be six points by the end of the weekend). Hopefully, they will be able to finish the season off strong and gain promotion to the first division.

Best wishes through the rest of the season Kaitlyn - and Go Ponies!
