Aug. 17, 2012
DALLAS (SMU) - Golfweek has released its annual preseason rankings, and the national publication has SMU making great strides this season, listing the Mustangs at No. 28 in the country.
SMU is returning two of its five lowest scorers last season, including Harry Higgs and U.S. Amateur qualifier Sam Fidone. An impressive freshmen class is also heading to the hilltop, including Bryson Dechambeau, who also qualified for the U.S. Amateur.
Four other freshmen will join the Mustangs this fall (David Lee, Austin Smotherman, Ryan Burgess, Maxime Blandin), as well as top-50 national golfer Mario Clemens, who will be transferring for his senior season from UCLA, and junior Will Nixon, who is transferring from Missouri.
"We're going to surprise some folks, there's no doubt," Head Coach Josh Gregory told Golfweek. "I can't wait. I thought it'd take four or five years to get to this point. The future is very bright."
