Women's Soccer Prepares For Pair Of Home Games
Ponies host Oral Roberts Friday, Arkansas Sunday
Aug. 22, 2012
DALLAS (SMU) - SMU women's soccer will kick off its home schedule with games against Oral Roberts on Friday and Arkansas on Sunday at Westcott Field.
SMU felt heartbreak in its first game of the regular season at San Diego State, where a goal in the 104th minute undermined the Mustangs' ability to secure a point on the visit.
Friday's home-opener against the Golden Eagles is slated for a 5 p.m. kickoff. SMU is 21-5-0 all-time in home openers, and have won three-in-a-row. SMU has also won 16 of its last 17 home openers, dating back to 1995. SMU holds an all-time 6-1-1 record against ORU.
The Golden Eagles joined the Southland Conference in July. They were picked by coaches to finish fifth in the Southland this season. ORU is currently 0-1-1 after a season-opening 2-1 loss to North Texas and then a scoreless draw on the road at UMKC.
Arkansas currently holds a 2-0-0 record, with wins over Austin Peay and Texas. The Razorbacks also have a home contest Wednesday night against Missouri State, before they head to Dallas for Sunday's match. SMU holds an all-time 10-2-0 record over Arkansas, but the Razorbacks hold the most recent win, a 2-1 decision in Fayetteville, Ark., last season.
Fans have the unique opportunity on Friday to catch two SMU soccer games for the price of one. A ticket purchased for the women's game will also gain admittance to the No. 16 SMU men's soccer match against Campbell at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for this weekend's action, as well as to all home games can be purchased at www.smumustangs.com/tickets or by calling 214-SMU-GAME.
