Final Box Score

DALLAS (SMU) - Kenzie Scovill scored twice, and Olivia Elliott and Shelby Redman each added goals as SMU defeated Arkansas, 4-0, at Westcott Field on Sunday night.

The win brings SMU to 2-1-0 on the season, and also avenged the Mustangs of their loss to the Razorbacks one season ago, when Arkansas won 2-1 in Fayetteville, Ark.

SMU scored four goals on its first 11 shots, including the first two by Scovill. Courtney Smith found Scovill's head with a cross from the left side at the 21:03 mark in the first half, and the Mustangs carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.

SMU came out strong in the second half, and scored three goals between the 50th and 60th minutes. Scovill added her second after stealing a bad defensive-third pass from Arkansas and finding a wide-open net.

Elliott scored almost immediately after, after picking up an attempted shot by Scovill point-blank in front of the goal line and redirecting the ball into the net. Redman picked up a rebound off of a long shot from Smith and put it home at the 59:21 mark.

Scovill's two goals marked her first-career two-goal game. She also recorded an assist.

"She just works so hard, the kid is all over the place," Head Coach Chris Petrucelli said of Scovill. "She's on every ball and she tries for everything and she runs as hard as she can every time."

Scovill has been an important part of the offense for SMU so far, picking up three goals since Friday.

"The offense is looking to go through me," Scovill said. "I'm the one connecting. It's my senior year and it's time to go. I want the goals."

The win also gives the Mustangs momentum heading into a tough weekend, where the Mustangs will play New Mexico and No. 11 Virginia at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin.

"(The win) gives us a lot of confidence," Petrucelli said. "We feel pretty good about ourselves at the moment."

Arkansas takes on New Mexico on Friday at 5 p.m. CT.

Fantastic interviews as always. Thanks!

I love how Chris made sure to point out "this can't be the highlight". I'm sure the team thoroughly enjoyed the win but it's good to know they will undoubtedly be right back at it for a big challenge next weekend.

It is also great to see the sheer joy on Kenzie's face. It is great to see all of the hard work paying off and to see her making such an impact so far this season.

There have been a lot of good signs in the first three games this season and I hope the rest of the season continues on this track!
