Young Has Career Highs In Kills And Digs In SMU's 3-1 Loss To Army
Bailey and Young each post first double-double of the season

FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) - Caroline Young posted her first double-double with career-highs in kills, 23, and digs, 18, and senior transfer Olivia Bailey had 39 assists and 14 digs, but Army won the final three sets to defeat the SMU volleyball team 3-1 (19-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-23) in the second round of the TCU Nike Invitational.

Young hit .288 and had a block, scoring 25.5 of the Mustangs' 60.0 points in the match. Carla Armstrong finished with eight kills for the Mustangs (1-4), but it was the combined effort of Megan Wilton and Francine Vasquez leading Army (3-2) to the win. Wilton hit .344 with 15 kills, and Vazquez hit .478 with 13 kills. Army also had 12 blocks to SMU's seven.

The Black Knights erased an SMU three-point lead midway through the fourth set and broke a 14-14 tie with a three-point run, taking a 17-14. The Mustangs battled back to tie the set again, 22-22, but Army scored three of the next four points to end the match.

Young had six kills, hitting .444 in the first set to lead the Mustangs to a 25-19 win. SMU gained an early advantage, taking a 5-2 lead, and stretched it to six, 16-10, after scoring five out of six points midway through the first set. Army managed to cut the lead to three, 21-18, but the Mustangs held off the charge to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Mustangs took a 6-3 lead early in the second set, but Army went on a 14-5 run to take a commanding 17-11 lead. SMU could only get on the board six more times before Army got to 25, evening the match with a 25-17 win. SMU will play its final match of the tournament today at 4:30 p.m. against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Mustangs' first home match is Thursday, Sept. 6, against Wichita State in the SMU Classic.
