Redman's Buzzer-Beater Gives Mustangs 2-1 Victory At TCU
30-Yard Shot With Two Seconds Remaining Brings SMU Back To .500 On Season

Sept. 7, 2012

FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) - A 30-yard strike from Shelby Redman at the 89:58 mark gave SMU a 2-1 road victory over TCU at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas, on Friday night.

Redman had already taken four shots and landed two on goal heading into the final minute of regulation. What was she thinking as she fired the last one from 90 feet away?

"I heard (Head Coach Chris Petrucelli) say there were eight seconds left," Redman said. "So I just looked up and just went to shoot it over the goalie."

The calm and collected Redman did just that, and SMU now improves to 3-3-0 on the season. SMU is now 26-0-2 against TCU all-time.

The two teams were deadlocked heading into halftime, although Petrucelli believed his team should have scored in the first half.

"I felt like we should have gotten one in the first half," Petrucelli said. "Give TCU credit, they didn't make it easy for us."

SMU finally scored at the 68:20 mark when senior Kenzie Scovill found pay dirt. Her header off of a Courtney Smith corner was her fourth of the season.

SMU continued to pour on the scoring chances in the second half, but an SMU penalty led to a penalty kick for TCU. Mackenzie Koch made good on the opportunity and tied the game at 1-1 with 77:56 left.

The win comes at a good time for the Mustangs, who are coming off of a tough 0-2 weekend in Austin, Texas.

"It's a good win for a number of reasons," Petrucelli said. "We beat a rival, we won on the road, and we did it in dramatic fashion.

"It keeps us moving in the right direction and gives us some confidence."

SMU hopes this win propels them forward for their next two games, which are against Baylor next Friday at 7 p.m. and a home game against Oklahoma on Sept. 16, also at 7 p.m.

"We're a tight group, and we're looking to do great things this season," Redman said.

Tickets for the Sept. 16 contest against Oklahoma can be purchased by visiting www.smumustangs.com/tickets or by calling 214-SMU-GAME.
