Manning Records 500th Career Block With Three Blocks At Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. (SMU) - Senior middle blocker Courtney Manning became the second player in school history and seventh in Conference USA history with 500 career blocks, recording three in SMU's 3-0 loss at Oklahoma. Manning has 502 career blocks, needing just 28 to break Kendra Kahanek's SMU record of 530 set in 2009.

Freshman Abbey Bybel led the SMU offensive attack with eight kills, while Manning finished with seven and a team-high .417 hitting percentage. Susan Lewis had a career-high 17 digs, and Caroline Young and Maddie Lozano each scored six kills. Lozano also had five of SMU's 10 blocks.

The Mustangs (2-8) had a chance to take the first set from the Sooners (9-3), coming back from three points down to cut the lead to one, 21-20, but a pair of Oklahoma blocks, including one on set point, gave the Sooners a 25-21 victory for the advantage in the match. SMU led by as many as three points early in the set, but were unable to edge out the Sooners on their home floor.

Oklahoma trailed just once in the final two sets, falling behind 11-10 in the third after SMU erased a three-point deficit. The Sooners scored the next points, and won the final set 25-17 after taking the second set 25-19.

SMU will face New Mexico Saturday at 10 a.m. and Arkansas-Little Rock at 5 p.m. as action continues at the Oklahoma Invitational in Norman, Okla.
