Women's Tennis Goes 6-0 In Singles, 5-1 In Doubles On Day One Of The Texas Invitational
Mustangs Get All Six Singles Victories In Straight Sets

AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) --- The SMU Women's Tennis team combined for an 11-1 opening day at the Texas Invitational on Friday. The Mustangs went 6-0, with each person advancing to the quarterfinals on Saturday's of her respective bracket. In doubles, SMU was 5-1 with two tandems advancing to Saturday's semifinals in their brackets.
"We had a solid start today," said head Coach Kati Gyulai. "We honored our commitments that translated to going 6-for-6 on wins in singles and 5-for-6 in doubles. We look to raise our level of play tomorrow to continue advancing. "
The Mustangs won all six matches in two sets. In the Orange Bracket, top-seeded and No. 34 ranked Edyta Cieplucha advanced with a 6-2, 7-6 triumph versus Audrey Wooland of West Virginia. Aleksandra Malyarchikova also advanced to the quarterfinals with a 7-5, 6-3 win against Millie Nichols of TCU. In the other brackets, fourth-seeded Elena Fayner, Heidi Stewart, Holly Verner and Hristina Dishkova were victorious.
In doubles, No. 4 seed Cieplucha and Malyarchikova won 8-0 against a duo from Rice and 8-3 against a pair from Tulane to reach Saturday's semifinal in the Orange Bracket. In the White Bracket, Verner and Stewart also won two matches to reach the semifinals on Saturday. The pair of Dishkova and Fayner won their opener in the Orange Bracket before falling in the quarterfinals.
