Mustangs Edge Kansas State In Tie-Breaker
SMU faces Tennessee-Martin tomorrow at 9 a.m.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (SMU) - The SMU equestrian team defeated Kansas State, 5-5 (793-732), on a tie-breaker Friday afternoon at Timbercreek Stables. With the win, the Mustangs move to 2-0 on the season.
"I'm extremely proud of our team's win today against a very strong KSU squad," head coach Haley Schoolfield said. "Our team has worked incredibly hard over the past few weeks and today it paid off as the team rode with great confidence and composure."
SMU opened with a 3-2 win over fences, taking the raw score 793-732. Freshman Schaefer Raposa earned a point with her 88-80 victory over Sarah Mershon. Junior Julianna Fischer also recorded a win, defeating Catherine Avolese 68-0. Freshman Alex Butterworth continued her strong freshman season as she collected a point with her 75-65 defeat of Madison Wayda.
The Mustangs fell, 3-2, in equitation on the flat, narrowly losing the raw score, 411-401. Raposa picked up her second tally of the day with an 86-83 decision against Jacquelyn Bogstad. Sophomore Rachel Reid pulled the match-tying point as she topped Wayda 81-78.
SMU faces Tennessee-Martin tomorrow at 9 a.m. at Timbercreek Stables. The Mustangs defeated UTM in the first round of the NCEA Championships last season and were eventually eliminated by KSU.
