McCombs and Moore Win At Head Of Oklahoma
SMU scores four top-10's in first regatta of the season

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (SMU) - Emily McCombs and Lauren Moore won the 500-meter sprint at the Head of the Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, highlighting the event which six members of the SMU rowing team competed in to start the season.
McCombs and Moore posted a time of 1:51.3, edging Oklahoma City University by just five-hundredths of a second for the victory. The duo also competed in a pair of 2.5-mile head races on the weekend, finishing fifth on Sunday in a time of 18:50.4. McCombs and Moore finished just ahead of the team of Dominique and Chantelle Conley, placing eighth with a time of 18:15.1. The Conleys finished ninth, giving SMU two teams in the top-10 with a time of 18:16.3.
SMU was also represented by Loni Albrecht and Emily Carstens, who finished just outside of the top-10 with a time of 18:41.5. McCombs and Moore also raced in solo events, with McCombs beating her teammate with a top-15 time of 20:58.6. Moore completed the course in a time of 23:27.5.
"I am pleased with the results of our first race," head coach Doug Wright said. "I think the small boatwork we have been focused on showed itself this weekend. We need to continue to train hard and stay focused on our time standards and boat moving skills."
The Mustangs return to the water for competition in the Head of the Colorado on Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas on Oct. 27.
