SMU Equestrian: Mustangs Sign Julia Fowler, Charlotte Jacobs To NLIs

Nov. 20, 2012

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU equestrian coach Haley Schoolfield announced the signings of Julia Fowler and Charlotte Jacobs to National Letters of Intent today. The pair rounds out the signing class of Addie Audette, Taylor Schmidt and Sylvia de Toledo.

Fowler, a native of Hartford, Conn., earned runner-up honors in the WIHS Equitation Classic and was sixth at the USEF Talent Search at the 2012 Devon Horse Show. In the 2011 Devon Horse Show, she won ribbons in the Maclay, USEF Medal and WIHS Equitation. Fowler placed 10th at the 2011 Hunterdon Cup and was third in the 2011 Zone 2 Maclay Regionals. Fowler trains with Andre Dignelli of Heritage Farm.

"Julia has been very successful on a national level throughout her junior years," Schoolfield said. "That kind of consistency is imperative to success at the collegiate level, and we are excited for her to continue to achieve great things as a Mustang."

Jacobs, a native of East Aurora, N.Y., won the 2010 and 2012 Shalanno Style of Riding Award at the Washington International Horse Show. She was a member of the gold-medal winning 2012 NAJRYC team and also won an individual bronze. Jacobs earned top honors at this year's 2012 Devon Horse Show, taking first in the USEF Medal and the USEF Talent Search, and was the winner of the Ronnie Mutch Equitation Championship at the 2011 and 2012 shows. Fowler trains with Missy Clark of North Run Farm along with fellow signees Audette and Schmidt.

"Charlotte has had an outstanding junior career and is one of the top equitation and jumper riders in the country," Schoolfield said. "She will be an immediate asset to our hunter seat team, and we are very excited to welcome her into the Mustang family."

The No. 10 Mustangs wrapped up the fall schedule by knocking off No. 1 South Carolina, 5-4, on Sunday. SMU opens the spring season on Feb. 16 against No. 7 Baylor at 10 a.m. at BuckBranch Farm.

No idea. Equestrian is an equivalency sport so there are 15 total for the program.

I assume it is fully funded considering SMU is short on female scholarships overall.
