Mustangs Improve To 4-0 With Sweep Over UAB

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men's tennis team recorded its fourth shutout of the year in a 7-0 victory over AAC opponent UAB on Sunday at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.

"Today was a great win," said Head Coach Grant Chen. "UAB competed really hard. It has been a good first two weeks, seeing the guys' progress on and off the court. We were pushed a couple of times today, and we were thrilled with how we responded to compete and stay in the match."

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.

Four Mustangs – Adam Neff, Liam Krall, Eric Hadigian and Maks Silagy - defeated their opponents in straight sets.

Neff earned his second singles win of the season with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 score over Carlos Gimenez Perez. Krall and Silagy also controlled their matches, with Krall beating Georgios Nouchakis (6-2, 6-4) and Silagy winning over Juan Pablo Valdez (6-3, 6-3).

Hadigian came away victorious in his first set (6-4), then rallied from down 5-2 to defeat Ondrej Valek, 7-5.

Trevor Svajda earned a singles point for the Mustangs with his win over Vojtech Podzemny. Svajda led 3-1 in the third set before Podzemny retired.

Jerry Barton earned the Mustangs' fifth and final singles match of the day against Noah Milage. After dropping the first set, Barton came back to win sets two and three (6-2, 6(7)-6(5)) to secure the shutout.

Doubles action resulted in another SMU sweep. Neff and Svajda took court one over Valek and Milage (6-3). Silagy and Barton soon followed, defeating Perez and Valdez (6-3) on court 2 to clinch the Mustangs' doubles point.

Julian Steinhausen and Huntley Allen capped off doubles play for SMU with a 6-3 victory against Parker Bradbury and Nouchakis.
