The bill did always seem lower when Byron was working.

I went to the Woodlands Grill (Forest & Preston) today for lunch. It's nice enough that I didn't think they'd have burgers on the menu, but they did, and it was one of the best I've ever had.

They have two, actually: the Woodlands Burger and the Preston Burger. I got the Preston Burger (without the avocado, which has no place on a burger), which had a thick patty, gouda cheese, BBQ sauce and a challah bread bun. It was absolutely magnificent — on a scale of 1-10, it was about a 32.

Question. I'm sure the answer can be found somewhere in this thread. But what would you consider the characteristics of a perfect burger? Thick or thin patty? Single or double? Cheese or no? What kind of cheese? Onions? Chopped or no? Bacon? Avocado? Other toppings? What kind of bun?

I am hungry.

Thick.
Definitely cheese — cheddar or Swiss, although some alternatives (gouda, romano, etc.) are acceptable in certain situations.
Onions (chopped or sliced).
Bacon optional, but acceptable.
Tomatoes.
Lettuce optional.
Absolutely no pickles or avacado anywhere in sight!

While we're at it, I tried a new one. There's a new restaurant downtown called Lark that has gotten a lot of buzz, and I went for lunch. In honor of this thread, I tried the burger.

Disappointing.

First of all, there's a difference between juicy and slimy — this thing was dripping to the point that the bun was soggy after a couple of bites. They also put nasty (gorgonzola) cheese on it. That's my mistake — after waiting for ages for service, I forgot, and when asked if I wanted cheese, I said yes, forgetting that they planned to put cheese that tastes like the smell of an old sweat sock. It completely ambushed the flavor of the beef, but then again, the bun had gotten so soggy that I ended up finishing it with a fork, anyway. That kind of damaged the whole burger experience.

But at least they tempered my disappointment in the burger by serving fries that were cold and too salty to taste. :x

Need the meat to be fatty and I do not know if it is just in my mind or not but if the patty is hand made (not perfectly round and flat edges) it sure seems better.
