Not this time, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Ugo Ihemelu make it in 4 years. If he does, I'm ordering a jersey.

Have we ever had a player on a world cup team?

I don't think we've had any in the last 16 years. Daniel Lopez (M) and Steve Sandbo (GK) are on the U20 team. Not sure what their chances are for making the 2010 Men's National Team.

Ugo is being currently predicted to at least be in the final pool for the 2010 WC.

This World Cup showed we (U.S.) need a great deal more strength and speed in the back. Ihemelu lacks experience, but he's fast and strong as hell. Four more years of experience, and he should be ready to roll.

Four years to the next WC is a long time. There will be a lot of new players and probably a new national team coach in the mix. It will be difficult for players coming out of the college ranks to make the national team. The players who play year around at a high level have a big advantage.

From foxsports.com: FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) - Juergen Klinsmann, who coached Germany to a third-place finish at the World Cup last week, is stepping down, the co-president of the German soccer federation said early Wednesday. Is this the next coach of the US Men's team?

Would not be surprised. I understand he lives about 40 miles from the national team practice facility in CA. Of course, we still have a coach although I heard he may go to MLS.

I think Italy's coach stepped down, too, although that might be part of a power play for more money.
There's also talk that he might sign on as an assistant (!) with Manchester United, so he's first in line when there's a change there in a few years.

I got the impression that the Manchester United postion was a done deal but I could be wrong.
