Son of Payne Stewart Commits to SMU

Aaron Stewart, the son of the late two-time U.S. Open champion Payne Stewart, said Tuesday he has orally committed to play golf at SMU. Oral commitments are non binding.

Payne Stewart graduated from SMU in 1979, the same year he was co-champion of the Southwest Conference.

Aaron Stewart, of Olympia High in Orlando, Fla., made an official visit to SMU last weekend.

Note: The Mustangs can snare Payne Stewart's son but not Craig James' son?

Two reasons:

1. Sounds like Aaron Stewart is a terrific prospect.
2. His father loved SMU, and was proud to be a Mustang.

Living in Orlando, I've heard about this kid quite a bit. If Aaron Stewart comes through, SMU will have snagged a great golfer.
