DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's soccer spring schedule was announced today by head coach Tim McClements. The Mustangs are coming off of a season in which the team went 13-7-1, was the No. 6 seed in this year's NCAA Men's Soccer Championship and won the Conference USA Tournament.
SMU opens the spring season Wednesday, Feb. 15, as the Mustangs host Major League Soccer's FC Dallas at Westcott Field. Mustang defender Ian Kalis, who was an integral part of SMU's back four this past season, was selected by FC Dallas in the MLS Supplemental Draft in mid-January.
The Ponies will take on MLS's Houston Dynamo in Houston on Feb. 18.
The Mustangs square off with conference rival Tulsa on March 3 in Norman, Okla., on the campus of The University of Oklahoma. SMU defeated the Golden Hurricane, 2-1, in Tulsa on Oct. 5 on goals from sophomore Juan Castillo and senior Diogo de Almeida (now with Real Salt Lake).
SMU travels to San Antonio to take on Trinity on March 31, before wrapping up the spring at home against New Mexico on April 14. The Lobos finished the 2011 season with an 18-0-4 mark and spent several weeks as the top-ranked team in the country.
