Wisconsin has had strong running with great teams for years. He has extensive experience coaching lines with the R&S offense against more complex defenses than the college level.

We have the most inexperienced Offensive line starting next year in many a season. We need a great offensive line coach now to develop a line in one preseason camp.

We need a coach that can upgrade our lines play while developing a significant number of non starters. I think the best offensive line coach possible is the pressing issue, not a recruiter. Don’t get me wrong, recruiting is essential to improvement. But recruiting will not protect our QB next season and recruiting will not open holes for Line.

This ^.

Of course, we'd love a stud recruiter but also keep in mind 2 (or 3?) of the new starters on the O-line will mostly like be Cali guys (Reich, Gottschalk, ?) and him coming from UCLA is probably not a bad thing in terms of instant respectability/credibility.

I'm not disagreeing that recruiting is key. We have seen what happens with improved recruiting. I just believe Jones felt a great O line coach was a more pressing need than a stellar recruiter. Thus I feel this is a great hire. Perfect would have been a great recruiter and O line coach. Those are hard to come by

Super Bob Palcic will fix the O line. No need to focus on recruiting. UCLA must of had a heck of line for everyone to proclaim his offensive line coaching greatness.

I'll take Bob Palcic if thery run 1-2 old codgers out of town that never get off their [deleted] in recruiting and play no role in recruiting. You can't have 3 Coaches who never recruit and a few more than rarely get commitments from top recruits. This is the wrong staff for getting the job done in recruiting. Too much dead weight-and on average about a decade older per coach than any other staff we compete against.

People need to stop complaining just to complain. The man has coached THREE Outland Trophy Winners, and I'd be willing to bet there isn't another coach in the country who can claim that. Let's see what he can do with our young line before writing him off, huh?

I am going to regret this--Stallion, I hope you will respect me in the morning, but you are right. A great OL is is a necessity (welcome Coach Palcic). But, we have a couple of position coaches that aren't good coaches, don't work hard and don't recruit. June has an opportunity to groom some new Texas coaches that love to sell the school and June. It is time we start seeing our name on the Blue Chip lists if we want to move forward.
Odum's efforts seem a waiste of time. He is making offers to highly rated out of state kids, that have a slew of local offers and all make the same statement, "Don't know much about SMU, my first contact was when Coach Odum contacted my head coach to tell me that they offered." No wonder his nets are empty in February. If you want to chase an out of state blue chip, you need to have built a relationship with him, his father and his hs coach a year ahead to have any chance at all.

Agree wholeheartedly with Mex who agrees (in this instance) with Stallion. Call a coach, make an offer, never visit or call the kid, and job done. Yep, that's not gonna cut it but it could (I don't know but wonder) satisfy the boss? He at least looks like a busy guy trying to recruit.
