Academic matters have not been on the table since the summer fiasco 2 years ago re the 2 football players. The admission process and NCAA qualifications were ironed out at the time. All coaches are on board with the standards, requirements and admission procedures /reviews established in the after math of that situation. Academics were not an issue in the recent dismissal of Orsini.

Staying eligible isn't the issue (shouldn't be the issue). The "learning center" will walk you through any assignment to ensure you get the grades.

It's a matter of getting into the university. The NCAA and SMU disagree on standards.

UT steers their less academically inclined scholarship kids into athlete friendly majors (Exercise Science e.g.) and away from tougher sections of the required courses. But like almost everyone else they hope that their jobs are easier because their goal is to recruit "one and dones" in basketball.
