2013 ScheduleSo the schedule for 2013 (Big East Inauguration Year), 4 of the first 5 games will be against (In Order) Tech, Baylor, @A&M, and @TCU?
Sounds like a 1-3 possibly 2-2 start... I'd think they'd should've scheduled to play some CUSA or Sun Belt schools like UNT and Rice for an easy 3-1 or 4-0 start... An SMU fan from the other D.
Re: 2013 ScheduleWe always say we want to compete against the best. That we should be in the Big 12. But when it comes time to actually play these teams we concede defeat early and often, then say we should schedule more cupcakes to pad the record.
This is the only way to national respectability. Winning the BE is not enough. TCU fans will still laugh at us and the national media will discuss how we beat no one. Let's put on our big boy pants and go play some football. As my favorite radio personality Jason Ellis would say, "Harden The [deleted] Up!" Just say NO to marketing!
Re: 2013 Schedule
^^^THIS^^^ Look folks, either we are ready or we are not, and that opening stretch in the BE (and this year's for that matter) will show where we truly stand. Time to put up or shut up. Re: 2013 ScheduleWith all of the conference changes, the OOC schedule for 2013 may change. If we came out of the OOC 2-2, we'll be in good shape. We can compete in the BE, but we may have to be prepared for a losing season early on. Western teams we'd play, Memphis, Houston, SDS are beatable. Boise, Louisville, Cincy, will be tougher, but we could eake out a win among those. Rutgers, UConn, Temple, USF, Syracuse, UCF are all beatable depending on which two we play. I suspect we'd end up about 5-3 or 4-4 in conference. If we ended up 6-6 or 7-5, or 5-7, that would be a respectable start.

Re: 2013 Schedule
Really? Would have been pretty odd to have put Rice on the OOC schedule when those games were booked, considering SMU and Rice were in the same conference at that time with no scheduled departure by either of them.
Re: 2013 Scheduleed4life is right but there are different ways of gauging success and looking good in the media and with fans and alumni. Must take a realistic view in analyzing compettive nature of BE and arrange schedule so that 6 wins and a bowl bid are likely while as we get stronger hitting the road to play the big boys for money and fame like FSU did in building their program and KSU to a lesser extent. Not many people happy at 5-7 even if you beat TCU and Baylor. Look at last year....limped home aafter an impressive start but poor coaching down the stretch had June leaving and many at SMU glad but then fortunately put a great effort into bowl game while Pitt was shorthanded due to coaching change and didn't care but nationally people and those casual fans consider it a good year and impressive victory.
Re: 2013 ScheduleSchedule shouldn't be a problem since June and the Golden Boys are MASTER EVALUATORS and recruiting offers and rankings don't matter. (Or perhaps some of you don't want to eat your own [deleted])

2013 ScheduleWhy are you people still hoping for/accepting 6-6 or 7-5 records in year 5+ of this regime? How is that even remotely acceptable? With a team full of JJ recruits I expect conference championships and Top 25 finishes moving towards top 15 rankings and eventual BCS bowls.
I feel like the majority of SMU fans are satisfied with keeping their heads above water and going to the Meineke Car Care bowl every year. Kevin: How's your portfolio?
Focker: I'd say strong...to quite strong
Re: 2013 ScheduleI don't deny beating the major in-state schools is a way of moving up.
But I agree 2013's non-conference schedule is a bit rugged.
Re: 2013 Schedule
I think you are right to a certain extent, and it likely comes from drowning for so long. Once you get your head above water you are just happy to be there and want to enjoy the moment. That said, our head is now above water and it is time to start looking to the next steps: stronger recruiting, a belief that winning against the A&M's, etc. of the world are the expectation and not a simple fluke, legit shots at national rankings, etc. We presented the case that we belonged with the big boys, now we need to back it up. Hopefully JJ is the guy to make it happen, but if not, we should thank him for his time and effort and find the person who is. "The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Re: 2013 Schedule
I'm not a fan of suicide OOC scheduling either (really pointless when you examine how teams like Boise State, TCU, Utah, etc built up their winning brands) but it wouldn't look nearly as daunting if June had spent his time here recruiting and developing talent better so we'd actually be ready for such competition. June is 1-6 against Tech, A&M and TCU and 4-20 against teams that finished with winning records so he's far from a giant killer. Hard to have faith in such overwhelming failures so I'd be completely surprised if we won one of those games (that is if he's still coaching here in 2013). Re: 2013 Schedule
I'm sorry... I didn't know this... I was just simply stating my thoughts, and why don't they schedule Tech or Baylor and TCU with 2 cupcakes like say, UNT and UTSA. An SMU fan from the other D.
Re: 2013 ScheduleIf we don't compete against the best teams in our region we will never get the type of media attention that we need to attract to recruits and put butts in the seats. Essentially, the 2013 opponents are middle of the road Big 12 teams and what will probably be one of the bottom tier of the SEC. I consider this a great schedule in terms of getting attention for our program.
Re: 2013 Schedule
Didn't know his record was that bad against teams with winning records. SB, do you have the complete list? This recruiting class will certainly not improve matters.
Re: 2013 ScheduleIf you read enough of those that are defending this current recruiting class and the last one we will win the BE title. So the 1012 and 2013 OOC should be not problem since we will have the talent to do it according to some.
